Job Description

Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan is an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Education, Department of School Education & Literacy, Government of India. It has its Headquarters office at New Delhi, 25 Regional offices located at Agra, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Delhi, Ernakulam, Gurgaon, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jabalpur, Jaipur, Jammu, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Silchar, Tinsukia, Varanasi and 1288 Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) functioning all over the country including 03 abroad. It also has five Zonal Institutes of Education & Training (ZIETs). KVs are coeducational schools upto class 12th and focuses on holistic development of students.

Selection Process:

KVS/NVS Exam Overview 2025

The recruitment process for KVS and NVS posts is conducted by the CBSE. The selection typically involves a two-tier written examination followed by interview or skill test, depending on the post.

  • Exam Mode: Online / Computer-Based Test (CBT)
  • Tier 1 Duration: 2 hours
  • Tier 2 Duration: 2.5 hours
  • Negative Marking: Tier 1 – 1/3rd mark; Tier 2 – 1/4 mark
  • Selection Stages: Tier 1 + Tier 2 + Interview / Skill Test (where applicable)


Exam Pattern

Tier 1 (Preliminary / Objective Exam)

Tier 1 is a screening test for all posts and is largely common in structure. Its primary aim is to assess a candidate's general aptitude, language skills, and basic knowledge of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) and reasoning.

Duration: 2 hours (120 minutes)

Important Points:

  • Questions are bilingual (English & Hindi), except for language tests.
  • Each question carries 3 marks, 1/3 mark is deducted for incorrect answers.
  • Tier 1 is qualifying in nature i.e. it is conducted for shortlisting candidates in a 1:10 ratio for Tier 2.


Variation:

  • Multi-Tasking Staff Tier 1 includes General Awareness, Computer Operation, and Language Competency, also totaling 100 questions and 300 marks.
  • Medium of exam is strictly as opted in the application form, and cannot be changed.


Tier 2 (Subject Knowledge Exam)

Tier 2 evaluates subject-specific expertise. The structure varies slightly for PRT, TGT, PGT, and other specialized posts.

  • Each objective question carries 1 mark; negative marking is 1/4 per wrong answer.

  • Medium: Bilingual (English and Hindi), except posts like PGT/TGT in Modern Indian Languages where the medium is the respective language.
