1. Stage I Computer Based Test (CBT-I)

The first stage of CBT serves as a screening test, with the questions designed to align with the educational and minimum technical qualifications required for the positions. The candidates who are shortlisted for the second stage CBT and are utilizing reservation benefits from their community, PwBD, or ExSM status shall continue to be considered only within that community for all subsequent stages of the recruitment process. The questions will be objective type with multiple choices.

Duration and marking scheme in CBT-I

Please find below the duration and expected marking scheme for CBT-I:

Duration: The CBT-I lasts for 90 minutes. Those candidates under PwBD category and using scribe facility will be given 120 minutes for the test.

Marking scheme:

Total no. of questions - The CBT-I will have 100 questions.

Each question - 1 mark.

Negative marking - 1/3 mark to be deducted for each incorrect response.

2. Stage II Computer Based Test (CBT-II)

The shortlist of candidates for the 2nd stage CBT exam shall be determined based on the normalized scores from 1st stage CBT exam. The total number of candidates shortlisted for the 2nd stage will be 15 times the total number of vacancies in each community, as notified by RRB, ranked according to their merit in the 1st stage CBT. However, the railways reserve the right to adjust this number to ensure a sufficient pool of candidates for all notified positions.

Duration and marking scheme for CBT-II

Duration: 120 minutes (160 minutes for eligible PwBD candidates with a scribe facility).

Number of questions: 150.

3. Document verification (DV)

Candidates will be shortlisted for DV based on their scores and merit from the 2nd stage CBT, as well as their preferences. The number of shortlisted candidates will match the number of available vacancies.

If two or more candidates receive the same score, their merit ranking will be determined by age, with the older candidate receiving a higher ranking than the younger one.

The appointment of selected candidates is contingent upon passing the required medical fitness test conducted by the railway administration, as well as the final verification of all essential documents and the background check of the candidates.

4. Medical examination (ME)

Candidates invited for DV must successfully complete the necessary medical fitness test conducted by the railway administration to confirm their ability to perform the duties associated with the positions they have applied for. The visual acuity standards are particularly important for Railway Service medical fitness.
