The application deadline for the NTPC recruitment has been extended! Interested and eligible candidates can now apply until October 27, 2024, for undergraduate positions.
Understanding the RRB NTPC Exam Pattern is essential for effective preparation. The selection process includes several key stages designed to evaluate your knowledge and skills. Here’s what you need to know:
The selection process for RRB NTPC Undergraduate vacancies includes the following stages:
1. Ist stage Computer based test (CBT)
2. IInd stage Computer based test (CBT)
3. Computer based typing skill test (CBTST)
4. Document verification
5. Medical exam
Let's explore in detail the five stages of the RRB NTPC undergraduate exam 2024.
This stage is common for all notified posts of CEN 06/2024. The Computer-Based Test (CBT) serves as the initial step in the selection process. The first stage of the CBT is a screening test that assesses your knowledge in general awareness, mathematics, and general intelligence and reasoning abilities. The question standard will generally align with the educational qualifications required for the positions. The normalized score from the first stage CBT will be used to shortlist candidates for the second stage CBT based on merit. Candidates who qualify for the second stage CBT and are utilizing reservation benefits (OBC (NCL), SC, ST, EWS, PwBD, and ExSM) will continue to be considered solely within their respective categories throughout the recruitment process.

Candidates for the 2nd Stage CBT will be shortlisted based on their normalized scores from the 1st Stage CBT. The total number of candidates to be shortlisted will be 15 times the number of vacancies in each community category as per their merit in the 1st Stage CBT. However, the Railways reserve the right to adjust this limit, either by increasing or decreasing it, for any specific category as necessary to ensure an adequate pool of candidates for all notified positions.

Please note: The normalized marks obtained by candidates in the 2nd Stage CBT will be used to shortlist candidates for document verification for positions that do not require a computer based typing skill test (CBTST). For positions that do include a computer based typing skill test (CBTST), the normalized marks from the 2nd Stage CBT will be utilized to shortlist candidates for that test.
For the positions of Accounts Clerk Cum Typist and Junior Clerk Cum Typist, a Typing skill test (TST) will be conducted as a qualifying assessment (the marks from this test will not be included in the merit calculation). Candidates equal to eight times the number of vacancies in each community will be invited to take the test. Applicants must be able to type 30 words per minute (WPM) in English or 25 WPM in Hindi on a personal computer, without using any editing tools or spell check facilities.
For those taking the Typing Skill Test in Hindi, Kruti Dev and Mangal fonts will be available for use on the personal computer. Candidates who are permanently disabled due to blindness, low vision, cerebral palsy, or locomotor disability with a minimum of 40% disability may be exempted from the Typing Skill Test. Eligible PwBD candidates must upload a scanned copy of the Typing Skill Test Exemption Certificate issued by the Competent Medical Board to the respective RRB website before the Typing Skill Test. Merit will be determined solely for candidates who qualify in the TST or for those exempted PwBD candidates, based on their performance in the 2nd Stage CBT.
Candidates will be called for Document Verification based on their examination performance, with the number of candidates invited corresponding to the number of available vacancies, ranked according to merit and preferences. The appointment of selected candidates is contingent upon passing the required Medical Fitness Test conducted by the Railway Administration, as well as final verification of educational and community certificates, and a background check of the candidates' antecedents and character.
The candidates invited for document verification must successfully complete the required medical fitness tests conducted by the Railway Administration to confirm their ability to perform the duties associated with the positions they have applied for. Visual acuity standards are a key aspect of the medical fitness evaluation for railway staff. Please refer to the medical standards outlined in the notification for RRB NTPC undergraduate exam 2024 (CEN 06/2024).
