The charges are all documented in the PMP Handbook and are laid out in the table above, which is taken from the Handbook.
The fees will remain the same regardless of whether you choose to go to a test center to take the exam or choose to take a paper based exam. There is also a really big discount for being a member, greater than the entire cost of the membership itself. Also included with that will be the PMBOK guide book for a price of zero – completely free!
We realize that the cost of the PMP exam may be prohibitively high for many. In fact, it probably is at that. But we don’t think that is a good enough reason to let go of your dream of becoming a PMP certified professional who manages projects with a great deal of panache and competence. We urge you to consider what the returns of your investment into the PMP certification exam will be. Project managers receive much higher salaries than other job roles across the pay scale spectrum.
One basic requirement of being able to take the PMP exam is that one must have 35 contact hours of formal training. One must be able to provide evidence of that before being able to apply for taking the exam. In the eventuality that you don’t possess formal training that you can show to fulfill this requirement you will have to take a training course.
A refresher training course for PMP is a cost-effective way to ensure that your other fees, like the exam fee, don’t go to waste because you’ll increase your chances of passing the exam on your first attempt.
There are several options for PMP certification training courses including these.
These are various PMP exam prep books available from Amazon. As the PMBOK® Guide can be dry and difficult to follow in places, it is highly recommended that you get a study guide book as well.
They will provide a deeper knowledge about the material you learn in the training course and will be useful as additional reference materials. As you go through your chosen PMP prep book, you’ll see that it includes information that is almost identical to what’s in the PMBOK® Guide, but in a much more approachable way. Some good prep books will also provide guidance on the actual examination and the expectations one can hold with the exam on the actual day of the exam. They also contain sample questions.
Here are some of the recommended books that we find students have the most success with.
